jon barnes - January 5, 2009 2:37 PM
Syracuse, NY is home to the powerful new three-piece band One False Move. Their energetic live performances in the region’s most popular club venues have earned them a loyal following across a diverse demographic since the band attained its’ ideal incarnation in February of 2008. It was then that bassist Justin Cosser and guitarist / vocalist Jon Barnes joined forces with drummer Matt Madonia. Jon and Justin spent the previous year blending their own creative styles, which demonstrated the influence of punk, metal, grunge and hip-hop, to produce a repertoire of dynamic original songs featuring addictive lyrical hooks, pounding bass riffs and intricate tempo changes. When Matt joined the team, he brought with him the technical intuition and disciplined cadence that allowed the band to finally execute the unique sound that has become synonymous with One False Move.
At a live performance, this 20-something trio unleashes a wall of sound which immediately engulfs and, in turn, mobilizes the crowd. The initial reaction is often one of surprise: the three musicians deliver their craft with the velocity, precision and depth of a much larger ensemble. One False Move demonstrates the cohesion of a seasoned band, their chemistry evident as each member intuits the other’s next move. This is manifested not only in the tight transitions, but in their complimentary and engaging stage presence. Bass player Justin’s frenetic intensity and rhythmic convulsions drive people to the front of the stage, where Jon sinks in his hooks and keeps them there with stunningly pure and emotional serenades truncated by razor-edged pledges of metal allegiance. Matt dishes out delicate cymbal work with the same precision that he runs roughshod over the double bass (and, on occasion, a monstrous drum solo). The ever-responsive and enthusiastic audience pays homage by crowding the stage, seeing and hearing with equal intensity (when not avoiding the mosh pit).
One False Move has been hired to perform repeatedly at all of the area’s hottest and best-attended music venues, including The Dinosaur Barbecue, Mezzanote Lounge, The Dungeon, Mac’s Bad Art Bar, The Ugly Stick Saloon, the Half Penny Pub and the legendary Lost Horizon, among others. To get a sense of what the excitement has been about, and to find out why their friends and fans have become their best promoters, visit one of their upcoming shows or click on “One False Move” on this page to connect to the band’s myspace page.
