The Filthy McNastys bring hard rock to the blues scene. Or is it blues to the rock scene? A hard working, hard playing band of misfits, The Filthy McNastys follow their own path. With influences ranging from Cash to Coltrane, Claypool to Canned Heat, The McNastys deliver their own brand of blues-rock with honesty, humor and of course, Filth.
Once described as “Johnny Cash meets the Rolling Stones”, the band is quick to discount comparisons. Blazing a new trail in rock and blues isn’t going to be easy, but The Filthy McNastys are up to the challenge. The McNastys write down-to-earth, insightful songs with inspired lyrics and heavy guitars. “Raunchy” and “fearless” are a couple of the words used to describe the sound and feel of a McNasty tune. The Filthy McNastys “blend the simplicities of raw folk and the sexiness of 60’s blues-rock with relative ease…” Says Troy L. Smith of Rochester’s Insider magazine.
A McNasty show has been compared to a backroom bash at a roadhouse, with wild guitar riffs ripping and bad-ass bass lines pounding almost as hard as the drums. Rounding out the sound are the welcome additions of tasty keys and hot harmonica riffs. The songs consist of memories both good and bad. From the slow, soulful ballad “Ignorance is Bliss,” in which a relationship ends and hearts are broken, to the feel-good boogie tune “Honey On Tap”; whose refrain, “Condoms in the bathroom, Honey’s on tap tonight” is a hit with audiences of every background. The McNasty sound is as wide and varried as the experiences that inspired the songs. The school of hard-knocks doesn’t hand out diplomas, but the songs they create are more than enough reward for lives lived hard and battles fought with valor.
